Welcome
message from our District Governor Wyn Spiller

Our Rotary International theme this year, Make Dreams
Real, is one that resonates with all of us. It is a call
to action, a call to continue to work in our three primary focus
areas of clean water and sanitation, health and hunger, and
literacy, but with the additional goal of reducing childhood
mortality. It is almost beyond belief to learn that 30,000
children under the age of 5 die every day of largely preventable
causes. Rotarians can help change that; we can help change that.
We can make a difference to our children in all parts of the
world, including our own District, with a wide variety of
projects that will Make Dreams Real by giving
our children a healthier, safer future, a future with hope.
We can make other dreams real as well. "It doesn't really
take much money, and it doesn't really take much time, to make a
significant difference in a person's life." Those words
were spoken by a recent Past District Governor from Russia,
describing his Clubs' many projects, projects that were
significant, not because of the buildings built or the cutting-
edge equipment purchased, but significant because of the time
Rotarians spent with the people, especially the children, for
whom the projects were created. .
As we journey through this Rotary year together, let us pledge
ourselves anew to tapping into the power within each one of us
to make a difference. We need the courage and boldness to
continue to tackle some of our world's most pressing needs,
including those of integrity and trust; the persistence to see
our work through despite obstacles along the way; the commitment
to projects that are chosen and designed for sustainability in
concert with our beneficiaries; and the spirit to share those
most precious gifts of time, resources and personal connection.
Great service and great fellowship go hand in hand, so enjoy
the special friendships you make in Rotary, in your own Club and
around the world. They are to be cherished and shared, for
Rotary is indeed a gift. Be very proud to be a Rotarian.
